Jirou (ジロー, Jirō) or Dillo is an armadillo-like monster trained in eastern Begaritt and bought by Geese. Rudeus Greyrat took it home with him as he felt sorry to leave it behind in the desert to be eaten by monsters. It later becomes of the family pets of the Greyrat household.

Jirou is a monster that looks like a large armadillo.

Personality

Jirou is properly trained and docile. It is afraid of griffons, but killing them and eating their meat in its view is enough to give it confidence with its group and march on..

Background

Jirou was trained by a Lizard-like demon race in the eastern Begaritt.

Plot

Jirou travelling with Rudeus' group in the Anime

Rudeus purchases Jirou and a carriage to be pulled for preparations to travel from the Begaritt Continent to Sharia to be used as a ride for Zenith and Lilia (in the Anime) as they travel through the desert. Rudeus initially plans to leave Jirou in the desert but decides to bring him since he can fit in the Teleportion Circle instead of letting him die. Upon arriving at the Northern Central Continent, Jirou seems to be struggling with the cold and could anytime that Rudeus decides to at least give him a name and decides that it will be Jirou. But Jirou manages to survive and gets used to the colder weather and eventually becomes Roxy's ride to Ranoa Magic Academy.

Power and Abilities

Jirou is large and strong enough to carry people on its back or pull a carriage.

Trivia

• The name Jirou (ジロー, Jirō) is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of armadillo (アルマジロ, arumajiro), which is also the same pronunciation as a common Japanese name “次郎”.
  • The English LN translation named it "Dillo" in the same manner, despite its unfortunate resemblance with the word "dildo".
• Roxy rides it to work when she is not accompanying anyone else.
